My Blog Title: The untold the retold
From [https://my.clevelandclinic.orgase]: Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a very contagious viral infection that causes a blister-like rash on your child’s hands and feet and painful sores in their mouth. The disease most often affects babies and children younger than 5 years old. HFMD is typically mild and usually clears up on its own within seven to 10 days. From [Wikipedia]: The viruses that cause HFMD are spread through close personal contact, through the air from coughing, and via the feces of an infected person. Contaminated objects can also spread the disease. Coxsackievirus A16 is the most common cause, and enterovirus 71 is the second-most common cause.
Other strains of coxsackievirus and enterovirus can also be responsible. Some people may carry and pass on the virus despite having no symptoms of disease.
From [https://my.clevelandclinic.org]: Dengue fever is an illness spread by the bite of mosquitos infected with one of the dengue viruses. Symptoms are usually flu-like but can worsen to severe dengue (dengue hemorrhagic fever), a life-threatening condition. Getting infected a second time increases your risk of serious symptoms. Dengue fever is an illness you can get from the bite of a mosquito carrying one of four types of dengue virus (DENV). The virus is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, including Central and South America, Africa, parts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. Can you be immune to dengue fever? Yes, you can get immunity to a version of dengue virus once you’ve been infected with it. Because there are at least four versions (strains) of the virus (DENV), this is pretty complicated. Your immune system has tools it can use to recognize infections and get better at fighting them off. As your body fights a virus, it looks through its toolbox to find out which tool (antibody) it has that can destroy that specific threat.
From [Wikipedia]: The Cocoliztli Epidemic or the Great Pestilence was an outbreak of a mysterious illness characterized by high fevers and bleeding which caused 5 to 15 million deaths in New Spain during the 16th century. Cocoliztli epidemics usually occurred within two years of a major drought. The epidemic in 1576 occurred after a drought stretching from Venezuela to Canada. Proponents of the viral theory of cocoliztli suggest the relationship between drought and outbreak may reflect increased numbers of rodents carrying viral hemorrhagic fever during the rains that followed the drought. From [https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]: The native people of Mexico experienced an epidemic disease in the wake of European conquest, beginning with the smallpox epidemic of 1519 to 1520 when 5 million to 8 million people perished. The catastrophic epidemics that began in 1545 and 1576 subsequently killed an additional 7 million to 17 million people in the highlands of Mexico. Cocoliztli, from the Nahuatl: pest, was a disease unknown to Indian or Spanish physicians before 1545. A consensus description based exclusively on first hand witnesses is the following: The disease had a very short course, lasting three to five days. It started abruptly with high fever, vertigo, severe headache, insatiable thirst, red eyes and weak pulse. The 16th-century population collapse in Mexico, based on estimates of Cook and Simpson. The 1545 and 1576 cocoliztli epidemics appear to have been hemorrhagic fevers caused by an indigenous viral agent and aggravated by unusual climatic conditions.
