Magellanic penguins migrate in the Atlantic ocean from Southern to Northern hemisphere in search of food and warmer water. In July's weird occurrence, around 2,000 penguins were dead and carried by the sea current to the coast of eastern Uruguay. Avian influenza was tested negative for this reason. Specimen samples of dead penguins were empty stomachs and without fat reserve. According to NGO SOS Marine Wildlife Rescue, the overfishing causes food chain problems and subtropical cyclone in the Atlantic, which hit southeastern Brazil in mid-July, probably caused the weakest penguins to die from the inclement weather.
